To the Editor
Dear Sir:
Increased government spending on marketing and transport will not lead to a revival of tourism because the quality of the tourism product had declined drastically and for this each of us has to take responsibility.
Increased crime is the major problem. The visitors who have left because they have been victims of crime will not come back nor will their friends. But the deteriorating environment is also a deterrent:
Flies everywhere because of poor sanitation; litter everywhere because people do not care; men urinating along the main roads and an epidemic of wild fowls roaming and disturbing the peace. Tourists cut short their visits because of these things and they tell their friends.
All Anguillians have to be proactive in making Anguilla attractive again. Report crimes and anti-social behavior; clean up the trash and get rid of wild fowls. Tourists are not coming to stay on a farm.
Sincerely,
A concerned resident
