On November 12th 2013 at the conference room of the Royal Anguilla Police Head Quarters, the Department of Youth and Culture (DYC) hosted a developmental session entitled “The Best of Me”. The session was geared towards young people who are currently enrolled or have been referred to the Job Link Up programme.
At commencement of the session, the Job Link-Up Field Officer Mrs. Janis Elijah, gave the opening remarks and welcomed the clients and mentors who were present. Mrs. Hyacinth Bradley, Senior Programme Officer, provided an overview of the programme, and introduced the newly appointed Director of the Department of Youth and Culture, Mr. Bren Romney and Ms. Joleyne Robin, Programme Officer-Youth.
During his brief remarks, Mr. Bren Romney encouraged the clients on the Job Link Up programme to value the effort, time and resources that are being employed to make the programme possible. He further challenged them to take advantage of the training available through the programme and to do their best to successfully complete the programme and gain fulltime employment. He reiterated the Department and Ministry’s interest in the Job Link-Up programme and recognized the value which it brings to national development.
“The Best of Me” developmental session was aptly facilitated by Ms. Joleyne Robin. This interactive session was well received by participants as they were given opportunities to voice their various challenges, and discuss ways to develop themselves as positive individuals. As part of the developmental session, each client received a complimentary package.
The Job Link-Up programme which was launched in April 2009 is geared towards facilitating the entry of young people between the ages of 15-25 who are unemployed or at-risk of remaining unemployed due to particular challenging socio-economic or personal circumstances. Participants on the programme are selected based on a combination of these challenging factors. It is expected that through their attachment to the programme, at-risk youth will widen their education and skill base, develop positive attitudes about work and themselves, and gain quality work experience with the end result of becoming gainfully employed.
The Department of Youth and Culture, and the Job Link-Up Core Management Team would like to express their sincere gratitude to the workplaces and referral agencies that continue to partner with the programme, and are encouraging individuals, businesses and other establishments who are interested in serving as mentors, or partners of the Job Link-Up programme to contact the Department of Youth and Culture at 498-3792/497-0969 or email Janis.elijah@gov.ai
