The Police in Anguilla have reported a series of robberies, burglaries and thefts which have rekindled much concern on the island.
On Wednesday, November 13, the Police reported that on Saturday, November 9 at about 3.15 am three females had just returned home in South Hill from a night club when they were violently robbed.
According to the Police report, the young women were approached by five young men armed with guns and knives who robbed them of their money and cellular phones. The women also discovered that their home had been burglarised.
On Monday, November 11, at about 7.00 pm the Police responded to a report of a robbery at South Hill. It was reported that two masked men, one armed with a gun, and the other with a machete, entered a Chinese restaurant. The robbers took the cash register which contained an unknown sum of money and fled the scene.
The Police are investing the above incidents and are appealing to the public for any helpful information which can be passed on to the Criminal Investigation Department.
Meanwhile, the regular Police report for the period November 6-13, states that sixteen serious crimes were committed. Ten of the offences were thefts at Shoal Bay, The Valley, The Quarter, East End, West End, Blowing Point, Island Harbour, South Valley, Deep Waters and South Hill. The items stolen included a refrigerator, electrical wire, a kayak, sunglasses, a Blackberry cellular phone, concrete blocks and laptops.
There were two reports of wounding at White Hill and South Hill.
Twenty arrests were made during the period as follows: seven males on suspicion of robbery; four males to prevent a breach of the peace; two males for wounding; two males on default warrants; two males for cultivating cannabis; one female to prevent a breach of the peace; one male on a bench warrant; and one male for being armed with an offensive weapon.
