Wednesday 30th October 2013 – The Valley, Anguilla: As part of its continued commitment to supporting its communities, Digicel was today announced as proud supporter of the Anguilla Cancer Society’s annual fun walk and mammogram drive initiative.
Digicel afforded ten persons mammogram free screening tests in the society’s free mammogram screening drive which is quite a meaningful gesture by the telecomscompany.
At the cheque presentation ceremony at Digicel’s corporate office, Country Manager, John Gidharry, said;“Driving awareness of cancer and cancer testing makes us stronger in our fight against it. With this partnership, we hope to further highlight the importance of early detection as well as raise funds into support for those suffering from it.”
Digicel employees also showed their support by wearing the anti-cancer themed shirts and participating in the walk.
Jennifer Gumbs, who heads the team of 15 volunteers, accepted the cheque on behalf of the organisation and was most appreciative of Digicel’s support.
She said; “Digicel’sunequivocal assistanceasa support system is necessary for non-profit organisations like the cancer society to exist.On behalf of the Anguilla Cancer Society, I would like to say a special thank you to Digicel for its generous contribution of US$1,000. We are indeed grateful”.
The seven mile fun walk which took place on Friday October 25th 2013 attracted over five hundred people.
