Commissioner of Police Mr Rudolph Proctor said an arrest has been made in the rape case in The Valley.

He told reporters that one person has been arrested and charged. Mr Proctor said the police are extremely grateful for the assistance of members of the public who were able to provide useful information.

Mr Proctor stated that it shows that once the police are provided with information in a timely manner, successful arrests can be made.

However, the Commissioner reported that the attempted rape in Long Ground still remains unsolved and that so far there is no link between the rapes. He issued a plea to persons who may have information regarding that particular incident to come forward to give the information to the police.

Mr Proctor described such crimes against human beings as awful especially when a child is involved.

He used the opportunity to call on persons who might have been raped but have not reported it to come forward with that information. He was of the view that there might be some similarity to those unreported rape cases that might give a clue and lead police to making other arrests.

He condemned such sexual acts adding that“we must get the perpetrators off the streets.”
