A farewell service was held at the Mount Fortune Seventh-day Adventist Church on Saturday, October 19, for Pastor Virgil Sams and Pastor Sylvester Williams, their spouses and children.
It was a joint service involving the congregations at Mount Fortune Church, JirehTabernable at South Hill, Shimei Tabernacle at Long Bay, the Spanish group and the New Life Company of Seventh-day Adventists.
During the lengthy service, there were expressions of appreciation and thanks, to both Pastors, by the First Elders and members of the congregations – and presentations of gifts. The Pastors acknowledged the tributes paid to them, thanked the church members for their support during their ministry in Anguilla and offered them their best wishes.
Pastor Sams, who previously served in St Kitts for ten years, was the Resident Minister in Anguilla for four years, having taken up hisappointment in October 2009. He is expected to leave Anguilla on November 4 to serve in St Eustatius, his homeland.
His departure was preceded on Tuesday this week, October 22, by that of Pastor Williams who served as the Assistant District Pastor for one year and two months, having taken up his appointment in August 2012. He originally served in Tortola and has now been assigned to Virgin Gorda – another of the British Virgin Islands.
Pastor Sams’ successor in Anguilla will be Pastor Trent Berg who is currently serving in St Thomas, US Virgin Islands. A welcome and installation service for the new Minister will be held at the Mount Fortune Church on Saturday, November 2.
Pastor Berg will be assisted in his ministry by Anguillian Pastor Leriano Webster who graduated, in May this year, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology from the Southern University of the Caribbean in Trinidad.
Pastor Webster, who is now doing his internship in Anguilla, is the son of Mr and Mrs Sam Webster of Island Harbour.
