This year’s Alcohol & Drug Awareness Poster Competition of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School was very difficult to judge. The entries showed that the students had a good understanding of the subject matter and expressed their ideas in a highly creative way.
The main emphasis of this year’s competition focused on howdrugs of abuse such as alcohol or marijuana can affect the teenage brain, especially the hippocampus.
The winning poster entitled ‘Don’t lose who u r in alcohol’ by Valencia Croft really impressed the judging panel with its strong use of imagery and creativeness.
First runner-up prizes went to Vernique Hughes with ‘Don’t be a fool, smoking isn’t cool’ and Pamela Seeyu with ‘Drink drivers aren’t accident survivors.’
Second runners up prizes went to Makeba Carty, Depaurick Connor, Mishlenne Desent-Smith and Delano Richardson.
Prints have been made of some of the posters which are presently displayed in many of the classrooms.
Thanks and appreciation go to the following for supporting the competition – LIME, L & J Business Machines, Gee Wees, Wings and Things, Papa Lash, J & S Snokonette and the Department of Education.
