Mr Othlyn Vanterpool, the Elected Representative for District 1, has been spearheading a community effort, for some time now, to give a facelift to certain places within that district using private funding and voluntary workers.
One of the most recent projects was the repainting of the East End Clinic with the approval of the Health Authority of Anguilla. “This was at no cost to them,” he said. “I went ahead, got the paint and, with the assistance of members of the Pond Ground/East End community, we power-washed the building and repainted it. We also cleaned up the yard and the trees around the clinic…,the tennis, netball and basketball court and other areas. Last year, with the help of other persons, we repainted the Welches Polyclinic which was in bad shape. The two buildings have been painted in the same colours.”
Mr Vanterpool said that he was also looking forward to completing the fencing of the Frederick O Harrigan Playing Field at Welches, and to the installation of lights there. The area is the site of the popular annual food and cultural festival – Welches Fest.
He was pleased that he and other volunteers had assisted in completing the painting of the kitchen at the Vivien Vanterpool Primary School. Other work to be done at the school includes the provision of shelves in the information technology room where there is a quantity of computer equipment.
Mr Vanterpool added that other community work to be undertaken, possibly this weekend, or later on, included the cleaning of the Owen Mussington Playing Field at Pond Ground.
