The staff members of the General Post Office, have undergone a period of training in fire prevention and control, taking into account the delicate nature of the work there and the possible hazards of fire.

The exercises were conducted by three officers from the Anguilla Fire and Rescue Service at the Clayton Lloyd International Airport on Friday, August 30.

Fire Officer Shondell Hodge, who is responsible for response operations, was the first presenter on fire physics and chemistry. He took the participants to various stages of fire and extinguishing methods.

The second presenter was Carlyse Lake, the Leading Fire Fighter, whose concentration was on fire safety at the workplace.
The third Fire Fighter, Omari Boone, gave a fire-extinguishing presentation.

The training also included evacuation procedures and good house-keeping practices.
The theoretical part of the training was followed by a practical session during which the Post Office employees were given opportunities to participate in a series of fire-fighting exercises.

Deputy Postmaster, Operations, JohnHarrigan, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, commented: “I found the training very interesting, informative and enlightening for the staff. We are all now sensitised to all aspects of fire safety at the workplace, as well as in our personal lives at home.”
