After what seemed to be an impossible situation between the Anguilla Teachers Union and the Government of Anguilla, the Honourable Minister of Education, Mr Jerome Roberts, during an interview with government Ministers on Radio Anguilla on Wednesday, issued a public apology to the teachers.
Mr Roberts said he does not recall the comments he made in the Anguilla House of Assembly earlier this year.
“I publically declare to the teachers, parents and pupils of Anguilla: if there were any derogatory remarks that I’m accused of, especially geared to foreign teachers, it was not intentional in anyway. The situation should not have reached where it reached, in the first, if the actions of the teachers did not take it to that course. Needless to say, let us burn the bridges. Let us move forward. And I humbly apologize if I have in anyway said anything that would have been not palatable to the teachers to whom I have the greatest respect.”
Mr Roberts said he has the utmost respect for the teachers and mentioned that he commended them for, when he spoke to them last week Friday, the work they have been doing.
The Minister of Education said he hoped they all move forward in the interest of the children of Anguilla.
