Ms Yvette Wallace, President of the Anguilla Bar Association, said that one of the objectives of the Association was to improve the continued professional development of its members by upgrading their skills.
She was at the time delivering an address at the opening of the Court for the new Law Year on Tuesday this week. She took the opportunity to report that twelve of the Association’s members attended the Tenth Regional Law Fair which was held in the British Virgin Islands from September 13-15. The event was organised by the OECS Bar Association.
“The Law Fair provides continued legal education for members of the legal profession, the judiciary and the public,” Ms Wallace reported. “Among the speakers at this year’s event were members of the Court of Appeal, the CCJ (Caribbean Court of Justice) and the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands. We also had noted authors and university professors in attendance. I am pleased that Anguilla had a large delegation with twelve of us attending this event that provided such a great opportunity for professional development and networking.
“We trust that more of our younger practitioners would have an opportunity to attend in the future. Anguilla is slated to host the 2014 Regional Law Fair. Our planning will commence shortly as we intend for it to be the biggest and best Regional Law Fair ever.”
Ms Wallace also took the opportunity to thank all the members of the Bar Council for their dedication and commitment to the affairs of the Bar and the profession in general. She said the Bar Association was also grateful to those members actively participating in the various activities and initiatives of the Association.
Speaking on behalf of the Bar, Ms Wallace recordedher appreciation to the Registrar and the Staff of the Court for the professional respect shown to the members of the Bar. She added: “I also reaffirm our commitment to cooperate with the Attorney General’s Chambers in the administration of justice and to provide efficiency with justice in all cases before the Court. I also extend to Your Ladyship the Bar’s best wishes for good health and a successful year.”
