A five-day Basketball Camp conducted by Head Coach Joe Farroba, and assistant coaches from Bridgewater State University in (Massachusetts) and from Anguilla, attracted sixty-two children from throughout the island during the week.
The event, at J C Recreational Centre at South Hill, is now in its second year. The brochure, setting out the objectives and arrangements for the camp, stated in part: “The goals of youth sports are to provide children an opportunity to play, exercise and learn sportsmanship in a fun way.”

Speaking to The Anguillian, Mr Farroba said in part: “This is our second year in Anguilla with the cooperation of Louis Price Fitness Centre, along with the Department of Sports in Anguilla. We have been able to coordinate the opportunity to have our basketball camp. Each camper, this year, will get a basketball and t-shirt provided by myself and two of my friends at Blowing Point who are residents here. They own property on the island and they contributed to help bring the coaches to Anguilla as well.”

As part of the basketball camp, Mr Farroba said it was arranged for a clinic for referees on Tuesday night and a clinic for coaches on Thursday night. He added that a friend in Anguilla had provided the accommodation for him and the other visiting coaches. “If he did not provide the housing, we probably couldn’t do the basketball camp because the expenses are incurred by all the coaches. We pay for our flight and the food, but we are trying to get people to help sponsor us now.”

The three visiting coaches for the camp are Mr Farroba, Brian Ferrris and Don Bryan, and the three Anguillian coaches areIan Connor, Delano Mussington and Simba Price (a high school coach in the United States).
