The Annual Methodist (Circuit) Summerfest took place at the Bethel Methodist Church from Monday August 12 to Thursday August 15 starting daily at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 12:30 p.m.
The event was spearheaded by Chairperson of the Circuit Organization and Education Committee, Bro. Seymour Hodge, who presented the young people ages 5 to 13 plus with a well-balanced programme of educational and fun activities.
In view of the recent wave of violent acts in our community, the theme for this year was based on Habakkuk Chapter 1 Verse 2 which highlighted “A cry for help from the Lord, regarding violence.” The session on “Say NO to gangs” proved to be a real ‘eye-opener’ to those youngsters who had no idea how or why gangs were started and perpetuated.
The keynote speaker for the opening ceremony was Rev. Erica Carty. She was followed by Rev. Dunstan Richardson who gave his blessings and declared Summerfest 2013 open.
The closing ceremony was chaired by Secretary of the Circuit O & E, Sis. Navine Fleming. One of the highlights of the evening was a short programme for the benefit of parents and friends. Also, during the ceremony, several prizes were given to deserving children for their hard work.
The vote of thanks was given by outgoing Circuit Steward, Sis. Janice Hodge. She expressed gratitude to the facilitators and supporters of SummerFest 2013 for their support and dedication in ensuring the week was a success. The Circuit looks forward to planning and executing a great Summerfest again in 2014.
