Kids Connect Summer Camp since 2009 is coordinated by Latoya Scarbro, Twyla Richardson, Cherise Gumbs, Charla Connor and Jabari Harrigan, a group of long time school friends geared toward giving back to the community through the development of our youth. The camp is always scheduled for the week immediately following Anguilla’s Summer Festival and is designed for children – between the ages of 5-12 – providing an opportunity for them to connect with other children in their age range by doing, caring, and sharing. All aimed at enhancing social skills, encouraging team spirit and fostering leadership traits
This year the camp was held during August 12-16 at Campus B and provided 50 children with a world –class experience. Participants were engaged in various activities such as jewelry making, soap making, dance & theatre arts, etiquette & manners, nutrition & fitness, among others and a series of field trips. Both the parents and participants were intrigued by the experiences and were grateful that they were given such an opportunity.
As is customary, each year, we make a contribution to educational needs in Anguilla. The 2013 funds will benefit the Arijah Children’s Foundation as well as The Valley Primary School for which the presentation will be made during its first assembly.
The camp’s success is partly due to the support of several business entities and individuals within our community. To this end the camp leaders and the participants of the Kids Connect Summer Camp 2013 take this opportunity to thank our exceptional camp leader assistants (who were actual past participants and have passed the age) Lavelle Niles, Kdiah Hodge, Koyeisha Richardson, Jariah Bartlett, Aneisha Lake, Lavida Niles, Shakarie Niles, and McKwani Thomas.
