Young people from the three Anglican Churches in Anguilla participated in a Voice Training Workshop during the period Monday, August 19, to Saturday, August 24.
“The audience at St Mary’s Church was thrilled with the melodious voices of fifty-five young people, ages four to eighteen, on Saturday, August 24, at the closing of the Keys to Better Singing workshop,” a press release stated.
“The workshop was facilitated by Mrs Tonya Richardson, owner and manager of Tuneful Studios, and was sponsored by the Parish of St Mary’s with St Augustine and St Andrew. Mrs Richardson is a highly-trained Voice Instructor who has worked with professional artistes and choirs in the Caribbean and beyond.”
The press release continued: “The participants thoroughly enjoyed the sessions. By mid-week, those who came reluctantly were rushing into the church to take their places. In the words of three of the participants: ‘It was great! We learnt how to stand correctly when we are singing; how to control our breath properly so that a sweeter sound comes from our vocal chords; how to call or pronounce words correctly; how to use time and pitch to colour our music; and how to be expressive in our singing’.
“Through this workshop and more to follow, the Parish is endeavouring to enhance the quality of its music ministry. Both the students and Mrs Richardson expressed their gratitude to God and the church for the opportunity to interact and share the gift of music through this medium.”
In pronouncing the benediction, Bishop Errol Brooks commended the young people for their excellent training, and joined in thanking Mrs Richardson for facilitating the week-long voice training workshop.
