STATEMENT BY HONOURABLE CHIEF MINISTER, HUBERT B. HUGHES
We are deeply saddened to hear of the shooting incident that occurred in Blowing Point last night. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families in this time of deep suffering. All of Anguilla strongly condemns this senseless act of youth-on-youth violence. As we approach our August Festivities local authorities will make every effort to ensure that the parties responsible for these crimes are brought to justice.

The Chief Minister’s office maintains regular collaborative dialogue with the Royal Anguilla Police Force and various sectors on island to ensure the continued safety and security of residents and visitors. As government officials, we understand that there are concerns, but want to emphasize to all visitors that the island continues to be a popular and secure destination for those who reside and vacation in Anguilla.

This is indeed an unfortunate incident and should, in no way, detract from the reputation of Anguilla as a safe and friendly island. Public safety as well as tourism officials are working together to ensure that all persons responsible are held accountable and that the destination remains as safe as possible.

May God continue to bless and strengthen the people of Anguilla.
