As the Rotary Club celebrated its 35th anniversary, it also experienced a change of guard.
Its new President is Dr Lindel Brooks. He has been elected to govern the affairs of the Club for the period 2013 – 2014. However, this is not Dr Brooks’ first time as President as he served at the helm in 2009 – 2010.
On Saturday 6th July at Rotary’s Change of Board Luncheon at La Vue, President Brooks spoke passionately on the theme “Engage Rotary – Change Lives.” He highlighted the fact that Rotary is leading the way in eradicating polio with its Polio Plus programme thus pointing out that Rotary is indeed engaged in changing lives.
Dr Brooks said, among other things:
“Here is a simple but impactful story in the Philipenes. Only one out of every one hundred thousand women can afford the vaccination against cervical cancer but with the help of various Rotary Clubs, over 100 public school teachers were administered the needed three dose vaccinations. They did pap test and were able to detect multiple pre-cervical cancer lesion. This is community service. It is not only the so called third world countries that community needs a high but in developed countries also.”
“It is historic that people like you continue to believe in the vision. We are not alone in the commitment to serve, we have our sister clubs who are partners with us.”, Dr Brooks observed.
He also pointed out to one of Rotary’s initiatives “The Kids at Sea Programme” that continues to have a positive impact on the youth.
He noted that Rotary will soon be launching its campaign to raise funds for a mobile dental unit. He said this will help serve the children of Anguilla.
