The eighteenth (18th) Annual Anguilla Tennis Academy (ATA) Summer Camp organized by CEO and President, Mitchelle Lake started on Monday, July 15th 2013 and is well on its way. With over 70 children between the ages of 4 and 17 participating, this camp is a combination of great fun, intense instruction and relationship building. International coaches Chris and Becky Wade (Dallas, TX), Nick Plum (Dallas, TX), Lavinia Lowerre (Boston, MA), and Chris Wettengel (Las Vegas, Nevada) are on island for the this week of the tennis camp and their contribution is outstanding. Also at the camp is a group from Tortola, BVI headed by Mr. Paul Oliver.
Mr. Oliver states the following about the camp: “As this was our first time attending a camp in Anguilla we were impressed. The professionals that came down were experienced and had good advice. The camp was intense and the weather made everything more difficult. It has been a fun experience and would love to do this again. The exhibition matches the professionals played were thrilling and intense. In the morning we did drills and in the afternoon we played matches and played games. The camp was a great experience and I would love to thank the ATA for their continued support”.
Organizer Lake commented, “This year the Summer Camp has reached a much higher level than in the past. This is a testament to the fact that the ATA’s Summer Camp is improving and his heading in the right direction. Our students are demonstrating their ability to play and compete amongst themselves, players from the region and players from the United States. We are very pleased to have the visiting coaches and students here with us to share in this year’s camp. The exhibition matches are also very exciting and is an opportunity for us to say thanks to our sponsors and supporters by displaying talented tennis players. We appreciate the loyalty of the international coaches, our sponsors, the students and parents to our summer camp and to the development of our children through the sport of tennis.”
The ATA’s coaches and staff have worked hard toorganize the camp and ensure that the camp was a success. This year many of the senior players worked as assistant coaches and gave back to the ATA in this special way.
