The Royal Anguilla Police Force has reported the shooting death of Troy Connor, 24, of The Valley, on Saturday night, June 8, at about 10 o’clock. He was at the time in the North Side area where he reportedly went for a walk.
The following is the Police report on the matter issued to the media on Wednesday, June 12:
“On Saturday 8th June 2013 Police responded to a report of a man lying on the side of the road in North Side. On arrival the Police found the body of a young man on the ground near a residential home motionless. A doctor was called to the scene who pronounced the body dead. Items of evidential value were recovered from the scene. Observation of the body suggests that the victim was shot several times.
“The victim was identified as Troy Connor of The Valley. An autopsy will be performed on Wednesday 12th June 2013.
“Police arrested two persons on suspicion, who were questioned and released.
“Police also have a rental car in their possession that was left parked with the key at Blowing Point Port. It is suspected that this vehicle was used by the assailants.
“The Royal Anguilla Police Force is seeking information from members of the public who may have seen a light blue Hyundai Accent rental car R1051 sometime between 9 pm and 12 midnight on Saturday 8th June 2013 being driven between Blowing Point and The Valley with three occupants.
“Persons can call The Valley Police Station or members of the Criminal Investigation Department. Persons can also choose to remain anonymous.”
Meanwhile, Troy’s mother, Signor Connor, who resides in the family’s home in the Upper Valley, described her deceased son as having been of a quiet disposition, avoiding getting into trouble with anyone. She said he usually went on walks from her home, would return later and then leave again – often repeating that process. She said her son, who was mentally challenged, was normally good after taking his medication but when he did not take it he would simply walk about the area. Troy’s father is Kenneth Burt, popularly known as “Pontiques”.
Ms Connor, who is a member of Dominion Faith Church, told The Anguillian in a show of her own faith in divine providence: “Only God is keeping me up. I am trusting in Him. I know He will come through for me. My son did not deserve to die in such a horrible manner.”
