Boatrace:-
The 2013 Round the Island Anguilla Day Boat race was cancelled due to unfavorable weather conditions, and replaced by a shorter race from Sandy Ground to Rendezvous and back to Sandy Ground.
Meanwhile boat race officials will meet to determine the final positions.
Cycling:-
Preparations for the 2013 J.T.M cycling race are now moving ahead rapidly; the race is scheduled to take place on 7th July and riders are expected to come from as far as Cuba for this year’s event. Several other Caribbean islands have expressed their interest in participating.
Table Tennis:-
Two young players Mckwani Thomas and Jaevharri Hodge along with their coach, returned to the island from Puerto Rico on Thursday. They attended a camp for players between the ages of 10 to 15 years of age. The young Anguillian players found the sessions to be very interesting and intense and promised to continue working hard to improve their game.
Basketball:-
Friday night, the Raiders defeated the school team by a score of 32-15. Top scorer for Raiders was Rowemaine Carty who scored 8 points. In game 2, the Shottaz defeated the knights by a score of 68-55. Top scoring for Shottaz was Rick Browne who knocked down 25 points and collected 12 rebounds. Leading scorer for the Knights team wasStrafmore Richardson,who scored 15 points.
On Saturday, Hoyas defeated the Nads by a score of 67-39. Machwir Louis top scored with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Leading scorer For the NadsCjayOralia top scored with 13 points and 11 rebounds.In game 2, the New Breed defeated Dominicanos by a score of 58-49. Top scorer for New Breed was Otashba Connor who scored 22 points. Leading scorer for the Domincanos was Elvys Castro who scored 13 points.
Also on Saturday there was a 3 on 3 tournament held on the Blowing Point Basketball court. There was a large turnout and the event was run quite smoothly. There were 10 teams who took part in this event.
On Sunday,the Hoyas and Knights played a continuation match that was postponed due to weather conditions. The Hoyas defeated Knights by a score of 69-57. Leading scorer for the Hoyas was Daren Webster who top scored with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Leading scorer for the Knights was Jamal Nuh who scored 17 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
Game 2 was a close match between the Shottaz and Raiders, which was won by the Raiders with a score of 61-58. Top scorer for Raiders was Incia Brooks who scored 28 points and pulled down 9 rebounds. The leading scorer for the Shottaz was Javille Brooks who scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

Cricket:-
On Saturday the Police played the Masters and won in a convincing manner. The Police batted first and scored a big total of 194 for 3 off their 20 overs. The masters replied and scored 127 for 9 off their 20 overs. For the Police team, Josiah John top Scored with 76 runs and Millington scored 47. In the bowling for the Masters, RaymeMinnette bowled 4 overs for 27 runs and picked up 2 wickets. In the batting for the masters, Richard Bradshaw scored 24 runs and kemoy Prince and Eustace Proctor each scored 19 runs. In the bowling for the Police, Terry Adams bowled 4 overs for 12 runs and picked up 3 wickets.
On Sunday, the school played against the Beaters in a close encounter. The beaters batted first and scored 152 for 7 off 120 overs. Kelbert Walters top scored for the beaters with 43 runs and Kevin Karie scored 17 runs. Demitri Adams picked up 2 wickets for 23 runs off 4 overs and Whaldama Brooks picked up 2 wickets for 40 runs off 4 overs.
The batting for the school, CalanVanterpool scored 61 runs not out and Demitri Adams chipped in with 24 runs. Shane Burton picked up 2 wickets for 31 runs off 4 overs for the Beaters.
Athletics:-
BVI twilight /Leeward Juniors Track and field championships: A good hunting ground for Zharnel Hughes
The A.O Shirley Grounds in Tortola, bellowed with excitement on Saturday 1st June as the inaugural Twilight light track and field Championship roared to life. International track star Kim Collins (former World 100m champion) treated the crowd to sprinting delight as he won the 100m with a time of 10:19 seconds. Jamaica’s Patricia Hall won both the 400m 51:34 and 200m (21:23 seconds) invitational races. Her competitors could only watch as she ran away with victory.
Anguilla’s 17 member team made their presence felt with some sterling performances. Young Zharnel Hughes treated the crowd by blitzing the invitational 200m dash with a time of 20:82 seconds. This time was also the fastest 200m time ever ran on the British Virgin Islands. His fellow Black and Gold club member Aiden Hazzard earned silver and subsequently improved his 400m time to 53: 50 seconds.
Rechelle Meade (5:74m PB) and Michal Brown (6:06 PB) proved their selection were good choices, when both of them earned silver in the Leeward Islands juniors’ long jump. Deon Vanterpool threw the javelin a distance of 49:95m to earn the bronze medal. Former 100m record holder Keron Rogers placed fourth in the Twilight invitational men’s B 100m dash. Junicia and Arron Richardson, Angelina Gumbs and DeqwanFredicks were just a few meters shy of earning a medal.
The Anguilla Amateur Athletics Federation would like to congratulate the athletes and Coaches Mrs. Wilma Proctor, Mr. Rollins Richardson, Mr. Derrick Griffith and Ms. Rodi Richardson for a job well done. Sports Summer Camp:-
The Department of sports is having its annual Summer Camp from the 8th – 26th July 2013 for children ages 6 – 14. Sports being offered are Netball, Volleyball, Basketball, Cricket, Table Tennis and Golf. Sessions will be held Mondays to Fridays, 9am – 12noon and 1:30pm – 3:30pm at the James Ronald Park. Registration fee is EC$75.00 which covers refreshments and a t-shirt. Deadline date for registration is June 28and can be done at the Department of Sports 8:00am – 12noon and 1:00 – 1:45pm.
