Who do you trust? That seems to be the cry and question these days. There are so many issues and so many sides to the various stories that people seem to be wondering – who is telling the truth? What really is the truth? Who really to believe? And who really do they trust?
Each day it seems as if we are finding ourselves facing difficult situations and having difficult choices to make. There seems to be all sorts of struggles. Struggles on the inside and struggles on the outside. On the inside, strugglesagainst pride, greed, arrogance, etc. On the outside – strugglesagainst poverty, job difficulties, an unsure future, and more. Maybe right now you are facing a serious struggle. Or maybe you recently had to deal with a difficult situation or maybe you fear that one is coming.
What do you do when life is coming down on you hard when there seems to be no way out? When you are worried or afraid? When you are in distress?What do you do when you are facing such monumental obstacles? Who do you turn to and who do you trust?
My friends, the answer is God! He is the only one whom we can truly trust. That is the way life is. It is a mystery and we never know what it holds from one minute to the next. This is why we need someone to go with us every step of the way and someone whom we can really trust. Worrying about the unknown and the potential terrors of this life makes us weak and fearful, but we have no need to live in fear. God is good for both the known and the unknown – for days that are bright and sunny and even days when things couldn’t get any worse.
We have often trusted many people and things and they all have failed us from time to time. We have all felt the disastrous results of failed trust within our families, by our friends and those in leadership positions. Confidences are shattered, tears are shed, feelings are hurt, trust is damaged and bitterness often grows. But when we put our confidence and trust in God, He never fails. He assures us of that many times in scriptures. Here are a few of them:
Psalm 25:1-3:“To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul; in you I trust, O my God. Do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame who are treacherous without excuse”.
Psalm 40:4: “Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false Gods”.
Psalm 56:3 “When I am afraid, I will trust in you”.
Psalm 62:8 “Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge”. Selah
Psalm 84:12“O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you’.
But God never fail. He can be trusted at all times”.
Psalm 91:2 “I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Psalm 143:8 “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul”.
Psalm 118:8 “It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man”.
Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;”
Proverbs 11:13 “A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret”.
You see, my friends, God wants us to trust Him. John 14:1 tells us ,“Do not let your hearts be troubled; trust in God, trust also in me”. He wants us to focus on Him. Far too often in life we become completely focused on the trials and difficulties of life and we lose our focus on Christ. When Peter walked on the water with Jesus he was doing well until he took his eyes off of Jesus and looked at the waves. The same is true of us today. God can get us through the most impossible situations but we must keep our focus and trust on Him. How can we ever expect to find help and healing when we are still focused on our difficulties and not our deliverance? Trust is found in our unswerving belief that the God of Heaven will indeed work on our behalf to bring His perfect will for our lives into being and in His time. The full resources of God are at our disposal when we place our trust in Him
So, my friends, the key is trust. If we do not place our trust in God, there is no access to His power, His mercy or His love. When trials arise, and we go through difficulty, it is then that we must place our trust in God. Without trust in Him there is no comfort, no peace, no strength and no relief.God has made a promise that He will never forsake those who seek Him. The promise that God made so long ago is still valid today because God has never broken a promise yet. He is true and faithful to His people and to His promises. So whom do you trust when life gets tough – Trust God!
‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,and to take him at his word;
Just to rest upon his promise,and to know, “Thus saith the Lord.”
Refrain:
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him! How I’ve proved him o’er and o’er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust him more!
O how sweet to trust in Jesus,just to trust his cleansing blood;
And in simple faith to plunge me‘neath the healing, cleansing flood!
Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus, just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply takinglife and rest, and joy and peace.
I’m so glad I learned to trust thee,precious Jesus, Savior, friend;
And I know that thou art with me,wilt be with me to the end.
