The Women’s Ministry Department of the Mount Fortune Seventh Day Adventist Church celebrated Women’s Ministry Emphasis Day on Saturday June 8th under the theme Revive Your Work In Me, A Prayer of Habakkuk. The entire morning’s service, including the Sabbath School and Divine Hour segments, was conducted by the women of the church. During the Sabbath School program the roles of various women in the Bible were highlighted through skits in the form of interviews.
The sermon, which was based on the theme for the day, was delivered by Sis Felicia Hill. In it she stressed that “we as women need to fill our shoes more and more so that a mighty revival, a return to God’s Word, will occur in our time, that our houses may become towers of spiritual strength and that our churches may be lights set upon a hill. – The time has come when we as Adventist women must each accept our assignments in the closing days of the great conflict between good and evil.”
According to Sis Violet Sams, Women’s Ministries Coordinator at Mount Fortune, women are an influential force in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. When women are ministered to the family, church, and community receive the benefits of their spiritual strength and their ministry.
Women’s Ministries is a place to address the spiritual, emotional, physical and social needs of women in the church. It encourages women to improve their potential for participation in the mission of the church. It is a support system for hurting women — whether they are suffering from divorce, abuse or simply loneliness. It is a forum to help address topics and issues as they affect the woman. It encourages young women through a scholarship program. It encourages women to become involved in all areas of ministry in their church, their community, and in their home. It mentors young women so that they may find joy in the Lord. Women’s Ministries recognizes that women have many Gifts of the Spirit and it attempts to help women discover and use these gifts to the glory of God.
Women’s Ministries Emphasis Day is on the Church’s Calendar of Days and Events and falls on the second Sabbath each June. It is an opportunity for women to lead out in a worship service and a chance to educate the church regarding the purposes of Women’s Ministries.
