The Government of Anguilla, having engaged in some research, is currently revisiting its policy with respect to the salary payable to public officers who are the recipients of scholarships, while they are on study leave. Public officers who are scholarship recipients currently receive their full salary irrespective of length of service, in addition to the scholarship funds which generally cover all the relevant and reasonable needs of scholarship recipients.
It is now being proposed that the payment of salary to public officers who are scholarship recipients will depend on their years of service in the Anguilla Public Service. If the policy is implemented, scholarship recipients will receive none or part of their salary while undergoing their course of study, if the scholarship is intended to equip them to occupy an identified post in the Anguilla Public Service upon completion.
It is anticipated that if the policy is implemented scholarship recipients would be required to access the scholarship within 12 months of the award (communication of grant of scholarship) or it would be forfeited.
The proposed policy changes, if implemented, are expected to result in the Government of Anguilla expending fewer funds on one individual, while ensuring more funds are available to afford opportunities for study for more persons.
