The Ronald Webster Park was a scene of colour and entertainment as ten teams, representing the public and private sectors, participated in the annual Labour Day sporting activities, organised by the Anguilla Amateur Athletic Federation (AAAF).
President of the Federation, Mrs. Lorna Rogers, spoke to The Anguillian at the commencement of the events at about 11.30. “Normally at this point in time we would be nowhere ready to start because the teams don’t be present, but this year we are ready to start on time,” she said. “I want to thank all the participating teams because this is one of the most important events on our calendar for the year and I anticipate it will be a great success.”
The ten teams comprised Cap Juluca, Viceroy, CuisinArt, Health Authority, Police, Customs, Legal, Anguilla Teachers’ Union, Ministry of Infrastructure and National Bank.
Observing the sports was Aime Maggiacomo, the Capacity Support Officer for the Anguilla Commonwealth Association from the Commonwealth Games, Canada. “It is really good to see so many different people from all parts of the island, and from different companies and agencies, supporting fun day,” she remarked.
The commencement of the varioussporting activities was preceded by performances from three groups of young girls acting as cheer leaders. They represented teams from CuisinArt Golf Resort and Spa, Viceroy and Cap Juluca.
