Excitement sparked the air over the weekend as Volleyball graced the Webster Park. On Friday 22nd March 2013, team Construction entertained Police in what seemed to be a competitive match. However, the destructive team Construction lead by the vocal Kia B, shrugged off the initial charge of their opponents and steered the team to victory with a 25, 23: 25, 16 win over team Police.
In the second game, ANGLEC charged up the stage as the played sports in a cliff hanger. Team Sports did not cower, as outside hitter, Ian Connor and middle Hitter, Ricardo Gumbs fortified the offensive game. Despite the many thunderous hits by Ian Connor and the blocks by Ricardo and the football like digs from Colleen “Coco” Johnson , team Sports were shocked into submission by the hits of Jason Liburd, Jeloni Lawrence and Yanique Stewart.
The final game of the evening witnessed the rampaging team MICUH, play the ever improving A.L.H.C.S Spartans. MICUH engineered the victory strategy through the hitting of Mr. Bancroft Battick. He was brutal through the middle and the weak side, showing no mercy to his opponents. Quick to make adjustments, Coach Ian Connor of the Spartans found the ingredient to make his team more competitive. Unfortunately it was to no avail as Battique and Andre Samuel sealed the deal with a score of 25, 18 and 25, 23.
On Saturday team Teachers thwarted any offense thoughts the A.L.H.C.S Spartans might have conjured by defeating them with a score of 25: 9; 25, 23. Mr. Perry Richardson and young Tashim Fleming led the way with hits and blocks.
In the second game team Sports and Police, battled each other to see who would emerge victorious. Lead by the aggressive middle hitting and block by tall Ricardo Gumbs, Sports sprinted to victory despite initial opposition from team Police. Scores for the game were 25; 19; 25, 10, in favour of team Sports.
The final game was a treat to all the senses, as the undefeated MICUH and Construction locked horns in an epic battle. Sherwin “Sky Walker” Richardson and Andre “all man, all amazing” Samuels, traded blocks and slams like card dealers issuing cards. MICUH used an aggressive jump serve by Kevin ‘Tilly” Gumbs to win the first set. However, nerves and an offensive flurry by Sherwin Richardson demoralized MICUH and gave Construction the second set. With both teams on even keel, one could hear Kia B and Marsha urging Construction to focus, while Ludiann and Daren Webster urged MICUH to reset and dig in. Despite the pleas of the latter, team Construction remained the only undefeated team by virtue of a hard fought victor with a score of 23, 25; 25, 14 ; 15, 8.
