Police in Anguilla have reported three serious crimes for the period April 10 – 17.
Acting Inspector Allan Coppin said there were two reported cases of burglary which occurred at Shoal Bay and Cauls Bottom. There was one reported case of theft in Island Harbour.
Items stolen included a gold chain, a gold coloured ring, a quantity of paint and foodstuff.
Two persons were arrested. One for taking part in a fight and the other for causing grievous bodily harm.
Meanwhile Commissioner Rudolph Proctor said police were continuing investigations into an arson report in which a boat at Rebel Marine was partly burnt. An arson expert from Antigua was on island over the weekend and presented his report and findings. The exhibits were taken for further analysis to help determine the origin of fire, substances used and possibly DNA to link the perpetrator to the fire.
Mr Proctor said within the past the island had experienced a number of arsons on boats but with few clues.
However Mr Proctor said this latest arson had shown some similarities in the previous arsons and that the report had given some leads.
On another matter Commissioner Proctor said some of the recent burglaries on island were cause for concern.
He said some of the items that are being stolen suggested that persons were desperate. He pointed out that persons are now stealing food items from houses.
The Commissioner said although persons may break into houses to eat, or drink or refresh themselves this could be unsettling for the house owners because no one would to use food items that were used by some unknown persons. He also said another desperate act was that some persons were stealing water.
The Commissioner added the Force will be working with the utility companies to ensure that this illegal practice is stopped.
