An autopsy will be carried out on the body of 37 year old Kevin Carty of Blowing Point to determine the cause of death.
Acting Superintendent Alan Coppin said the Pathologist Dr King is expected in Anguilla this week.
He reported that on April 4 the police received a report of a drowning in Sea feathers Bay. The officer said that based on reports it was understood that Carty and a friend went fishing on the sea rocks at Sea Feathers. His fishing line became tangled on the searock and he attempted to free it.
It was alleged that while trying to do so a wave knocked him into the sea. His body was seen floating face-down sometime after, but later disappeared.
Officer Coppin said members of the Royal Anguilla Police Force Marine Unit carried out a search inin the area the body was last seen.
The search continued the following day April 5 but without any luck. The body was discovered by a resident in the Sandy Hill area the following day.
Commissioner of Police Mr Rudolph Proctor said during the report of the drowning members of the public criticized the police for arriving late on the scene. He stated however that the officers responded in a timely manner but because the Marine Unit was located in Sandy Ground it took a while for the Police boat to arrive on the scene. He said the officers did their best in trying to find the body despite the rough sea where the body was said to be located.
Mr Proctor commended two persons from the North Hill community who took it upon themselves to swim in the rough waters to help to locate the body.
The Commissioner extended condolences to the family and friends of the late Kevin Carty.
