Volleyball:-
The Anguilla Amateur Volleyball Association held their annual general meeting at which elections were conducted on Tuesday 5th February, 2013. Majority of the Executive members were re-elected. Executive members and their respective posts are as follows:
President – Winston Duncan
Vice President – Khalidah Banks
Secretary – Julianne Leveret
Assistant Secretary – Rikiesha Leveret
Treasurer – Ludianne Leveret-Richardson
Assistant Treasurer – Tavia Nelson-Connor
Public Relations Officer – Andre Samuel
Also plans are ongoing for the annual Business League. Interested teams are asked to register with the Association by 22nd February, 2013.
Cycling:-
The newly elected cycling executive held its first meeting on Saturday 9th February which was attended by a number of cyclist and other cycling enthusiasts. At this meeting Vaughn Hazell was appointed Treasurer. Also discussions are taking place to have their first event in March. Therefore all cyclists are encouraged to get out their bikes and get ready for the first event next month.
Table Tennis:-
Anguilla Table Tennis players are preparing to participate in an upcoming competition in St. Maarten on March 16th. Meanwhile the ATTA is encouraging all persons interested in playing Table Tennis to contact the Department of Sports for access to the playing area at telephone # 497-5214.
Athletics:-
Weekly development meets take place at the JRWP as athletes prepare for Carifta Games and other upcoming competitions for the year. Plans are also in place for hosting the annual J.W. Proctors Track Classic on Sunday February 24th and the Ashley and Sons Road Relay on the Sunday 3rd of March.
In related news, the Anguilla Amateur Athletic Association announced the sad news, that the stalwart of NACAC but more importantly, the Caribbean track and field fraternity, Mr Teddy Neville McCook passed away on Monday 11th February.
Basketball:-
On Thursday February 7th the junior tournament continued at the North Hill basketball court. In the first game, the Top Hill (U13) team defeated the East Ballaz by a score of 53-6. The top scorer for Top Hill was Rene Thomas who scored 11 points and top scorer for East Ballaz was Stephan Fiedtkou who scored 4 pts.
On Friday 8th February the West Stars (U19) defeated the Gunners in a close competitive match by a score of 36-35. Top scorer for West Stars was Jamel Carty 9 points and for the Gunners Shakime Ferguson 13 points. In the second game, Top Hill (U13) defeated Junior Hoyas 42-26.
On Saturday 9th February, Junior Hoyas defeated Gunners 34-30. Top scorer for Junior Hoyas was Mckeem Thomas 10 points and Gunners top scorer was Oswald White who scored 12 points. In the second match, Top Hill U19 defeated East Ballaz convincingly by a score of 78-37. Top scorer for Top Hill Eliban Valera 25 points and for East Ballaz Kylon Webster scored 15 points.
On Sunday 10th February the Top Hill (U13) defeated Junior Hoyas by a score 24-20. Top scorer for Top Hill was Aristo Woodley who scored 9 points and for Junior Hoyas Shakiem Lake who scored 12 points. In the second match, the Junior Pointers (U19) defeated Gunners by a score of 39-26. Top scorer for Junior Pointers was Alphonso Isaac who scored 11 points and for Gunners the top scorer was Kion Lee who scored 7 points.
Games will continue starting Thursday- Sunday of this week at the North Hill basketball court.
Cricket:-
In the first Leeward Islands one day match, Leewards lost to Guyana. Although Leewards performance was disappointing, there were some bright spots. Our local Cricketers top scored; Jahmar Hamilton Scored 40 and Montcin Hodge 33. Leewards were bowled out for 182 and Guyana scored the runs with 5 wickets to spare. Lyndel Richardson is also a part of the Leeward team but he did not play in the first match.
Another local cricketer from Anguilla Yannick Leonard has been called up to join the Leewards 4 day squad.
