Local environmentalist, Ijomo Leroy Browne,of Desert Green Organic Concept is celebrating the launch of his first booklet entitled Medicinal Herbs of Anguilla which took place at J W Proctors Supermarket, on Saturday 9th February 2013.
The aim of the booklet is to educate the public about the indigenous flora of Anguilla. “By creating this booklet, I am able to demonstrate how plants and herbs can be used to bring healing to our bodies, and how they can be used in their natural state, as they were created by God, without harming the environment, “ states Mr Browne.“It is my hope that Anguillians will find this booklet a useful resource to learn about how their grandparents used the plants and herbs of Anguilla to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle, and since tourism is the island’s main industry, this booklet can be also used as a tourism product or collector’s item to heighten awareness of the culture and traditions of the island”.
In addition to obtaining copies of the booklet, which retails for US$15.00, visitors to Desert Green Organic Concepts can enjoy a number of experiences, including Herbal Consultations, advice on Medicinal Herbs, educational lectures, information on natural foods, biological insect control, and Do-It-Yourself Organic Gardening.
Mr Browne extends blessed thanks to all those who overwhelmingly supported him, financially and morally, including his mentor, Dr. Oluwakemi Linda Banks, the Anguilla Tourist Board, the Department of Youth and Culture, the ShoeNess Boutique, Max Printing and JW Proctors.
