Come February 16, a drama group, comprising Anguillian and other Caribbean nationals, will be staging a play at the Rodney MacArthur Rey Auditorium, commencing at 7.30 pm. There will be side show performances by students which, combined with the play, should cover a period of well over two hours.
The play, written by St. Lucian Mathurin Emmanuel, is entitled “Scattered Feathers”.The director is Beverly James, another St. Lucian and long -time actor in the play, who resides in Anguilla. “I formed a drama group here which will bring out the message of the play to the audience,” Mrs. James said. That message, according to her, is that: “Before you think or say something bad about somebody, you need to sit and think whether it is the best thing to do. That is because many people spread false rumours about an individual which blackmail or destroy that person or affect the community and society.”
The play is about a woman who, as a loud confused and negative person, got caught up in such false accusations of other individuals but eventually realised the error of her ways and sought to make amends to those whom she offended.
The drama event is being coordinated with the Principal of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School, according to Mrs James. She said it would be a fund-raising effort for children needing assistance and that the production caste comprised ten actors. They are Kay Bell, Graig Clarke, Lucia Emmanuel, Cassandra Webster, Clive Smith, Carmen Richardson, Martin Jeremy, Anthea Joseph, Carlos Sosa and Beverly James.
The play was already produced in St. Lucia and will be staged in Anguilla for the first time, with assistance from some local contributors. The admission fees will be EC$10 for adults and EC$5 for children.
