There will be no more official celebration for the Birthday of Anguilla’s Revolutionary Leader, and Father of the Nation, Mr. James Ronald Webster, with effect from March 2, 2013.
This is in keeping with a request which Mr. Webster made to the Government of Chief Minister, Hubert Hughes. Mr. Hughes has written to Mr. Webster stating that the Executive Council has accepted his wish.
The letter is as follows:
“January 28th, 2013

“Dear Mr. Webster,
“I write to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated January 10th, 2013 in regards to the Official Celebration of your Birthday.
“The matter was addressed by Executive Council at its meeting on Thursday January 17th, 2013. Council agreed, that in keeping with your wishes, with effect from March 2013, the official programme of activities organized to celebrate the James Ronald Webster Day be discontinued and that the day be marked as a public holiday only.
“Council also suggested that some recognition be given to you in the schools on Friday March 1st, 2013 prior to the public holiday on Monday March 4th, 2013.
“On my own behalf and on behalf of the Government and people of Anguilla, I wish to thank you for the invaluable contribution which you have made and continue to make to the achievements of Anguilla over the past forty six years.
“We will always be mindful of your tireless and fearless efforts in charting the way forward for Anguilla and its people.
