In keeping with the theme for World Customs Day, “Innovation for Customs Progress”, Anguilla’s former Comptroller of Customs, Mr Kenneth Harrigan, says the revolution of technology has changed the conduct and scope of international trade.

The former Comptroller of Customs was the keynote speaker at a special ceremony on Friday, January 26, to mark World Customs Day.

Mr Harrigan said with this rapid ongoing technological development, the Customs Department cannot afford to be indifferent.

He said the theme, “Innovation for Customs Progress,” is an on -going process calling for new ideas, new initiatives, new approaches and new devices.

During the ceremony the mission and vision statement of Customs was read by Mr Khendon Hull.

A moment of silence was observed for the late Jordel Gumbs who used to provide at least two platters of food to the Customs Department for World Customs Day activities.

The Customs Department has honoured Ms Anette “Neta” Petty for her forty plus years of service. Ms Petty retired in 2012.

In receiving her plaque, Ms Petty thanked the Customs officers for their kindness towards her over the years.

A plaque was also presented to Analyst Programmer at the Department of I.T, Mr Romero Kelsick, who was and continues to be instrumental in setting up the new I.T system, Asycuda World, for the Customs Department.
