ANGUILLA DEBATERS COMPETING IN 2013 DEBATE IN ANTIGUA

The Debaters

The Anguilla debating team is now participating in the 41st Leeward Islands Debating Competition in Antigua.

Anguilla’s team comprises Senegal Carty, JoseyVanterpool, Sipora Bannister, NishaDupie, Chelsea Hughes and Ariel Gaskin. The team is accompanied by Staff Sponsors Charmaine Rey Richardson and Michelle Queeley along with three other teachers and a number of students.

The venue for the debating competition is the Grand Royal Antigua Beach Resort from Thursday, February 21 to Sunday, February 24.

Thursday’s opening debate involved teams from the British Virgin Islands and St. Maarten on the subject: “The future of Caribbean economies is mainly dependent on the development of their human capital”.

Debaters, supporters and families

On Friday, Antigua and Barbuda will compete against St. Kitts on the topic: “Socialism is a better model for Caribbean Governments than Capitalism”.
The debates will continue until Saturday and Sunday nights. Anguilla’s champion team (last year) will compete against the winning team from Thursday’s debate. The subject for debate by the two remaining teams will be: “The increased number of women in the workplace has negatively impacted children”.

The participating islands in the debating competition are Anguilla, BVI, Montserrat, St. Kitts, Nevis, St. Maarten and Antigua and Barbuda.
