The Anguilla Youth Sailing Club and the Anguilla Sailing Association are excited to announce the hosting of the 5th edition of the Sol Petroleum Annual Anguilla Youth Dinghy Regatta on Saturday, January 19, 2013 in Sandy Ground.
The regatta will host four separate classes: Gold and Silver Optimist Class. Club 420, and Lasers. Optimist sailors must be 15 and under while 420 and Laser Sailors must be 18 and under.
Registration begins at 8 am with the first race commencing at 9:30 am. The award ceremony will begin at approximately 3:30 pm, shortly after the last race has been completed. The Club hopes to run as many as 6 races on the day.
The regatta is one way in which the AYSC fulfils its commitment to local youth sailors. It provides the opportunity to create competitive situations where the sailors can learn, while having a great experience and loads of fun.
The Sol Petroleum Anguilla Youth Dinghy Regatta is often our young sailors’ first taste of national competition and Sol Petroleum, and our other major sponsor, Anguilla Aluminum, have been key community partners in cultivating our competitive sailors.
This year, race organizers are expecting a very large turnout for this event. Young sailors from St. Maarten, St. Barth, USVI, Nevis, Puerto Rico and Anguilla have already registered. With so many youths competing, it’s guaranteed to have some exciting racing and the Anguilla Team is anxious to show what they have learnt since the St. Maarten event held in October 2012.
Parents and guests are encouraged to be part of the excitement and to watch our young sailors in action. Frangipani Beach Resort has kindly made available their powerboat, Relentless, for use as the spectator boat. Anyone wishing to watch the races and cheer on their favorite competitors should be at the small jetty Sandy Ground no later than 9 am, as the spectator boat will leave the jetty shortly before the first race begins.
Come out and show your support for the Anguilla Youth Sailing Club team!
