After a period of intensive investigations into a double homicide, Police in Anguilla have formally arrested and charged Aikeem Rogers of Stoney Ground with murder.
The young man, who had allegedly committed certain violations of the law before, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court on Monday, December 31, 2012. He was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison until January 7, 2013.
His arrest, charging and arraignment arose out of a report to the Police about a gruesome incident at Blue Diamond Bar in The Farrington on Monday, December 17, shortly after 10 pm.
The Police said in Monday’s announcement that they were told that two to three masked gunmen entered the bar and started shooting. There were several persons present at the time of the shooting. Three of them who sustained gunshot wounds were treated at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
According to the announcement, the Police searched the area and found the lifeless body of A.D. on the floor. The lifeless body of a second person, A.D. of Stoney Ground, was found in the bushes at the back of the building. In investigating the double homicide, the Police arrested Aikeem Rogers on suspicion of robbery. On Saturday, December 29, 2012, he was formally arrested and charged with murder.
In an earlier release, the Police gave the full names of the dead persons as Anuery Derrick, 32, a native of the Dominican Republic and Aswad Delonis, 17, of Anguilla.
The incident, described as the worst case of shootings – gun violence – violent incidents in Anguilla in recent times, resulted in much consternation across the island as the Police carried out their investigations.
