The late Murielle Schleifer

Murielle Schleifer, formerly Mitchell, of Old Ta in Anguilla, died quietly in her sleep at the age of 88 after a short illness on the morning of 27 December 2012. She leaves to mourn her sons, Don (Margaret) of Anguilla, Gordon (Joan) of Cascade, and Stephen Mitchell of Anguilla, and her daughter, Alix Crispe (Brian) of Burlington, Ontario. Also left to mourn are her 4 grandchildren Michelle & Mitchell Crispe & Ryan & Brent Mitchell, 2 great grandchildren, as well as her step children Alan & Edward (Debbie) Schleifer of Australia, and their spouses and children. She was predeceased by her step daughter Margaret (Tony) Greenidge also of Australia.
Murielle Mitchell-Schleifer was born on 6 October 1924 at Molyneux in Saint Kitts, the daughter of Albert Elliot Owen formerly of North Hill in Anguilla, and Marie Elise Uddenberg of Basseterre in Saint Kitts. On June 16, 1945 she married her childhood sweetheart, Arthur Donaldson Mitchell of Basseterre, but who had been born in Saint Vincent of Grenadian parents. Arthur Mitchell was the Manager of Woodford Lodge, Usine St Madeleine, and Brechin Castle Estates in Trinidad, and of Frome and Monymusk Estates in Jamaica, in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, until they were sold to the Governments of Trinidad and Jamaica.
Arthur Mitchell died in Jamaica In 1973 while serving as a Director of Tate & Lyle and the Managing Director of that company’s estates there. Subsequently, Murielle married Roy Schleifer of San Fernando in Trinidad. When Roy retired from Texaco in Trinidad in 1983, he and Murielle retired to live at Old Ta in Anguilla, where he passed away in October 1984.
Those who knew her will miss her, and treasure their memories of her, especially her constant laughter and many kindnesses. Her love has left an indelible imprint on the memories of all her friends who will take comfort in knowing that their lives have been enriched by having shared this love.
Her funeral service will take place at 3:00 pm on Friday 4 January 2013 at St Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church. Donations in lieu of flowers to be made payable to the Rosewood Centre for the Aged.
