The following is a Thank You message from the family of the late Captain Kirby Hodge to all persons in Anguilla, and abroad, for their support following his tragic loss when his aircraft crashed on a flight from St. Croix to St. Thomas on Saturday, October 19, 2012.
On behalf of the entire Smith-Hodge family, we would like to take this opportunity to wish all a happy, healthy, safe and prosperous 2013. We must also take this time to extend our deepest and sincerest gratitude for all the love, support and prayers for our tragic losses in 2012. My brothers, Captain Kirby Hodge and Clarendon Smith, were two pillars of strength in our tight-knit family. At times, the heartbreaking losses we have had to endure over the past two and a half years seem so unreal – our beloved mother in 2010, Captain Cardy Hodge in 2011, then Captain Kirby Hodge and our precious brother, Clarendon Smith both in 2012.
Cardy and Kirby’s sudden and shocking passing overwhelmed us with unthinkable heartache and grief.Clarendon did have a few health complications for quite some time and at one point his situation seemed to improve. We remained hopeful. But just three days after the memorial service for Kirby, we suffered yet another horrible shock. Our third brother was gone. Our family was devastated and inconsolable. But we know that we are never to question the actions of Almighty God, for He alone knows all things. We must simply trust Him in all situations. We have been enveloped in love by this nation in our times of sorrow and for this, we are forever grateful.
Your collective kindness, whether it was a visit, a phone call, an email or a prayer, was deeply felt. Your encouragement gave us the strength to continue on and honor those we lost. We extend very special thanks to the radio stations, especially Kool FM and Upbeat Radio, and also to Nat Hodge and the staff of The Anguillian newspaper, for their various means of support during this time.
To the people of Anguilla, we wish you and your families nothing but love, joy and peace for 2013 and beyond. Thank you once again and may God bless you all.
Sincerely,
Sheridan Smith and the Smith-Hodge Family
