Ten Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Anguilla are the recipients of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medals.
The awards were presented on Wednesday, November 28, by Governor Alistair Harrison assisted by Press Officer, Kim Cutler. “The Queen was very keen in her Jubilee Year that a medal should be cast which recognises the contribution that the emergency services throughout Britain and the Overseas Territories make to the welfare of the people. The medals are available to all those who have completed five years in the emergency services,” the Governor said.
Governor Harrison informed the medical and health personnel that he was told by a number of people that the speed of the response time, and the quality of service provided by the EMTs, were extremely high. “Although you may get the occasional complaints, I know, from what people tell me, that the overwhelming majority of your customers… speak very highly of the services that they have received,” he stated.
Acting CEO of the Health Authority of Anguilla, Ralph Hodge, observed that the awardees would cherish their medals with much pride, and that the awards would strengthen their resolve to serve the community well.
Director of Medical Services, Dr. Kennedy Simmonds, expressed thanks to the Governor “for graciously presenting the Queen’s Jubilee Medals to a well-deserving team from the Emergency Medical Department.” He said the work of the EMTs was an essential service in Anguilla, requiring much appreciation and the necessary equipment and training for the staff. He added that it was a good occasion for him to thank the emergency workers for generally providing excellent service sometimes beyond the call of duty.
Senior EMT, Steve McDowall, thanked HM the Queen and Governor Harrison for the medals. “We have a very tough task ahead of us and it is really nice when we are appreciated,” he said.
The brief presentation ceremony was attended by various members of the Management Team of the Health Authority.
Similar Queen Diamond Jubilee Medals have already been presented by the Governor’s Office to Police, Prison and Fire and Rescue Officers.
