Cap Juluca launched its 25th season by honouring some 100 team members at the Resort’s Annual Appreciation Awards at Spice Restaurant on December 13th. On hand for the special event was Owner, Mrs. Linda Hickox, who thanked the 360 Julucans for their loyalty and dedication to Cap Juluca over the years. She also expressed appreciation to the entire Team for their hard work and had high praise for the Renovation/Reconstruction team for a great job on the upgrades to the property in time for the November 15th re-opening. “The Hickox family is committed to the continued development of Cap Juluca and returning it to its former glory,” she told the staff. Mrs. Hickox also congratulated all the Awardees and paid special tribute to the five Julucans who are celebrating their 25th year with the Resort. Albert Connor, Wilson Fleming, Wayne Romney, Gwendolyn Griffith and Rhona Richardson who have been at Cap Juluca since 1987, prior to the opening of the first villas in 1988, were honoured for this outstanding achievement. They were presented with special 25 year recognition Awards.
The five original Julucans also joined the other members of the Juluca Jubilee Club in the welcoming eight (8) more long-serving Julucans into the Club which celebrates those with twenty (20) or more years of service at the Resort. The induction of Victor Gumbs, Maldwyn Romney, Alfred Gumbs, Ingre Wade, Barbara Mussington –Richardson, Carol J. Richardson, Edward Webster and Carolyn Daniel brings the Juluca Jubilee Club membership to eighty-six (86).
Villa Housekeeper, Sylvia Carty was named the Cap Juluca 2011/2012 Employee of the Year, while Landscaping Supervisor, Kishma Connor captured the 2011/2012 Supervisor of the Year Award. Accounts Manager and winner of the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association/Anguilla Tourist Board, Supervisor of the Year Award, Marcea Richardson-Forbes, was named Manager of the Year. Also honoured at the Awards, were the Top Ten (10) Guest Choice Awardees: Juliette Reid, Carol J. Richardson, Wilma Vanterpool, Gene Proctor, Terrence (Casa) Rogers, Jennifer (Monica) Romney, Eulalie Maynard, Myron Lloyd, Elvis Ruan and Edward Webster.
Albert Connor, who has the distinction of being the longest-serving Julucan with perfect attendance over the 25 years, was presented with the Juluca Pride Award, while fellow long-serving and perfect attendance award winner, Gwendolyn Griffith, received the Spirit of Juluca Award. The Juluca Support Staff Award went to Urcil Davis, while Russell Mitchell was the recipient of the Landscaping/Engineering Achievement Award. Pastry Supervisor and the Medal-Winning Pastry Chef for the Anguilla National Culinary Team, Shirmel Gumbs was presented with the Gwendolyn Griffith Culinary Achievement Award, while this year’s Lidian Richardson Housekeeping Achievement Award (named after the long-serving retired Housekeeper) went to Lorna Lawrence.
Some 48 Julucans were also presented with the Resort’s Perfect Attendance Award. The Annual Appreciation awards in celebration of the achievements of the staff at the island’s award-winning, flagship property, also included a special presentation by the Juluca Choir and moving prayer by General Cashier, Joyce Connor, as well as gala lunch Buffet and prize give-aways. General Manager, Bernard Sarme used the occasion to thank the Team for their outstanding contributions during the past year, pointing out that it was their loyalty and commitment to creating experiences beyond expectations, which brought him to Cap Juluca and continues to keep the Resort among the leading properties in the region and the world. His sentiments were echoed by Owner’s Representative, Carlos Lopes who expressed his appreciation to everyone for their hard work in getting the hotel reopened on schedule. Director of Human Resources, Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks, who chaired the proceedings, also congratulated the Awardees and thanked the entire Juluca family for their unwavering loyalty and commitment to excellence over the last two and a half decades.
