ATA Junior Christmas Challenge

The Anguilla Tennis Academy’s very first Junior Christmas Challenge tournament reached its thrilling conclusion on Tuesday 18th December 2012 after two days of fierce competition.

The players battled it out in two age groups for both the girls and the boys and there was a consolation draw as well as the main draw with trophies and medals for the winners and runners up. Each participant also received a special gold commemorative tennis pin. Twenty eight (28) players between the ages of 8 through 18 participated in the tournament.

The winners in Categories were as follows:
Boys 10 Years & under

Winner- Lucien Barronnier defeated Micha Connor (8 – 2)
Runner-up – Micah Conner

Boys 10 and under Consolation Draw
Winner- Taeron Jasper defeated Caedon Fleming (8 – 7)
Runner-up – Caedon Fleming

Girls 12 Years & under

Winner- Nandi Edwards defeated Kayla Hodge (8 – 2)
Runner-up – Kayla Hodge

Girls 12 years and under Consolation Draw

Winner- Louis Guinto defeated Rhonica Connor (8 – 1)
Runner-up – Rhonica Connor

Boys 11 – 14 years Draw

Winner- Khone Richardson defeated Antoine Laurent (6 -2, 6 – 2)
Runner-up – Antoine Laurent

Girls 14 – 18 years Draw

Avern Gumbs defeated Sabrina Connor (6-3, 5-7, 6-1)
Runner-up – Sabrina Connor
Sponsorship was kindly provided by Sunset Homes and by John Bedford, and hands on support for the event was provided by the coaches and the parents of the players.

The tournament culminated with an award ceremony and the children were delighted to receive the recognition of their peers and the coaches at the ATA. Organizer of the tournament, Mr. Mitchelle Lake said, “I am proud of all the participants for their efforts and great display of sportsmanship. The participants enjoyed themselves and the hot dogs and lemonade and Tropical Treats ice cream made a perfect ending to a great event.”

The ATA looks forward to welcoming back all its students at the start of the After School Programme on January 14th, 2013.
