More groups of children in Anguilla, in addition to primary school students, are benefitting from Scotiabank’s contributions to the development of kiddies cricket on the island.
The most recent contribution to date was made by Scotia Bank to four new groups of children in Anguilla. They were the ANWAR Cricket Club at the Central Christian School, represented by John Martin; the Bethel Methodist Pre-School, whose Principal is Londrina Hughes; the children in the Spanish community, represented by Carlos Antonio; and a youth group led by Louis Price at his Recreational Centre at South Hill. The donated cricket kits included bats, balls, stumps and other gear similar to the playing equipment which Scotiabank has made available to primary school children.
Scotiabank’s Commercial Banking Officer in Anguilla, Valdez Johnson, made the presentations on Friday, November 9. He said the donations were part of an arrangement between the West Indies Cricket Board and Scotiabank to provide the equipment to promote kiddies cricket across the region. He stated that the bank’s branch in Anguilla was proud to be involved in the programme which was being extended beyond the primary school to other groups of children in the community. He said the aim was to introduce youngsters to cricket with the hope that it would lead to productive young cricketers in Anguilla and the rest of the region.
Cardigan Connor,Anguilla’s Cricket Development Officer, who has coached a number of successful young cricketers, was pleased with the involvement of Scotiabank in the promotion of kiddies’ cricket. He expressed thanks and appreciation to the financial institution and the West Indies Cricket Board for their efforts to introduce and develop cricket among the youth in Anguilla and throughout the region.
