Anguilla will host the annual governance meetings of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) for first time on 6th and 7th December 2012 at the Cuisinart Resort.
The meeting of the School Examinations Committee (SEC) will be held on Thursday 6th December and the 44th meeting of Council, CXC’s highest decision-making body, will be held on Friday 7th December.
Among the major agenda items for discussion at the Council meeting are the proposed revisions to the Agreement Establishing the Council, the Registrar’s report and the 2013 budget.
The presentation ceremony for the most outstanding candidates in the May/June 2012 Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday 6th December at the Rodney MacArthur Rey Auditorium, The Valley. During the ceremony, which also marks the official opening of the Council meeting, awards will be presented to 17 students from across the region, nine for outstanding performance at CAPE and eight for outstanding performance at CSEC.
Honourable Edison Baird, Minister of Education in Anguilla will deliver the feature address at the ceremony and declare the Council meeting open.
Professor E Nigel Harris, Chairman of CXC; Dr Didacus Jules, Registrar of CXC, and Miss Melissa Persad of St Joseph’s Convent, St Joseph, Trinidad and Tobago, the Most Outstanding Candidate Overall in CAPE will also address the ceremony.
The Regional Top Awardees, who come from Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, and a CXC delegation, will pay courtesy calls on His Excellency William Alistair Harrison, Governor; Honourable Hubert Hughes, Chief Minister; and Honourable Edison Baird, Minister of Education on Wednesday 5th December.
Following the courtesy calls, the awardees will interact with students from the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School and visit places of interest on the island.
The Council comprises representatives of 16 Participating Countries, The University of the West Indies, University of Guyana and the teaching profession. The Council deals with finance and administrative issues, while the SEC deals with technical and examination issues.
