A big celebration is being organised for the Fifth Anniversary of one of Anguilla’s premier cultural groups – Klassique Academy of Dance and the Performing Arts. The highlight of the occasion will be “MOVE” – a Regional Dance Festival – booked at the Rodney MacArthur Rey Auditorium at Campus B on October 27, commencing at 8.00 p.m.
Several dance groups, involving a considerably large number of performers from Anguilla and neighbouring islands, will be participating in the commemorative event. From Anguilla will be All Ah Wee Theatre Group; From Within Dance; and Klassique Academy of Dance and the Performing Arts; Antigua:Shriva; St. Maarten: Motiance and Imbali; St. Kitts:OkolaTegrematine Dancers and Creative Sole; and from Tortola: JAD.
The main sponsor is the Department of Youth and Culture inAnguillawhich has contributed EC$6,500 to the thankful Klassique Academy of Dance and the Performing Arts. The local performing group is also gratefulto Digicel for allowing the organisers to use its service for text broadcasts. The organisers include Erica Edwards, Klassique’s Board member; Alfa Atbar, Executive member, along with Hyacinth Augustine, Programme Officer at the Department of Youth and Culture.
Klassique’s Fifth Anniversary celebrations will commence on Sunday, October 14, with a church service at St. Mary’s Anglican Church. The rest of the activities will be as follows: Saturday, October 20: Teen-O-Ween Party at the Scouts and Guides Ruthwill Auditorium; Saturday, October 27: the Regional Dance Festival; Saturday, November 3: a Walk-A-Thon from the Department of Agricultural grounds to North Hill and back; breakfast and a family fun day also at the Agricultural grounds; Saturday, November 24: Pyjama Movie Night at the Ruthwill Auditorium; December 1 and 2: a grand concert at the Rodney MacArthur Rey Auditorium; and Sunday, December 14: Klassique’s Awards Night at the same location. It is also being arranged for the Improv Dance Troupe to make appearances throughout the island in November.
