Campus B of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School recorded its highest number ever of new students in Form 1when it opened its doors on Monday this week.
The students, from the primary schools, have now begun a new life of secondary education, joining 210 others who have moved up to Form 2 on their way to Form 3 at Campus A in September 2013.
The new students, and those whom they have met at Camps B, are being taught thirteen subjects which are laying the foundation for the CXC examinations later on in Campus A. The subjects include Math, English, Spanish, French, Language Skills, Humanities, Design & Technology, Food & Nutrition, Arts and Crafts, Music, Personal, Social and Human Health Education and Integrated Science.
The newcomers were welcomed to the school by Deputy Principal-in-charge of Campus B, Mrs.Melsadis Fleming, who, among other things, stressed the importance of learning.
“We, the teachers, are here to direct you and we want each of you to get a good education,” she told the students. “Times have changed. You will need to have something in your hand to get a job inAnguilla, for example in the tourist industry. You have to get an education so that you can compete for the few jobs available. Apart from jobs, you need an education for living and every subject you are taught in school will help you in some point of your life.”
Among other matters, the Deputy Principal urged the students to attend school regularly and punctually; wear the correct uniform with pride and dignity; refrain from the possession and use of weapons and illegal substances; and help to maintain a clean, healthy and secure environment at the school.
Mrs. Fleming emphasised that those school rules and others were reflective of how the school wished to operate. She called on the students and their parents to remain cognizant of the rules and regulations and to govern themselves accordingly.
