Unique, refreshing, and flavourful are just some of the superlatives that come to mind when thinking of Anguilla’s newest creamery and dessert plant: Tropical Treats. Over the past two years, Anguillian entrepreneur Kyle Hodge, founder and owner of Tropical Treats, has been dedicated to providing one of a kind service to the people of Anguilla with his locally made and packaged ice cream and sorbet. With unique flavours, derived from cultural staples such as sour sop, coconut, mangoes, guavas and Baileys, the tasty venture has become an instant hit. Daily, people of all ages can be seen flocking one of Tropical Treats’ ice cream vans in the streets of Anguilla holding up traffic just to get a scoop of their favorite treat.

Mr. Hodge realised the growing product demand and took action to better serve his customers. On August 9th 2012 at 6:30 pm Tropical Treats opened a “Fun House” on George Hill. The Tropical Treats Fun House provides a jovial and amiable atmosphere for children and adults alike. It is adorned with colourful umbrellas, picnic tables and multiple outdoor play sets for children. Mr. Hodge explained his vision for the new location stating that, “Tropical Treats Fun House is not just about ice cream. It’s about kids having fun, families hanging out and taking the time out of their busy schedules to relax.”

The opening ceremony was led by an introductory speech by Mr. Hodge and the vote of thanks by Davon Halley. To follow the opening remarks, Pastor Cecil Richardson of theCentralBaptistChurchgave a special scripture reading and prayer and blessed the new location. The audience of about 50 people then watched eagerly as the newly crowned Prince and Princess Jayvon Llyod and Kylyiah Baird did the ceremonial ribbon cutting. From that point on, the evening was filled with laughter, free ice cream samples, photos and children playing joyously. Word of the Fun House opening seemed to spread quickly. After about a half an hour it was packed with paying customers and playful children all enjoying the new set up and new treats.

The Fun House will offer more than ice cream, adding treats like milk shakes, smoothies, daiquiris, coladas, hot dogs, iced coffees and hot coffees to the menu. In the very near future customers can look forward to light foods such as wraps, sandwiches and fries. So the next time you need to throw a birthday party, or just feel like taking the kids for a play date while relaxing in the shade sipping on a cool beverage, Tropical Treats Fun House is there for you!

On behalf of the Tropical Treats staff, Mr. Kyle Hodge would like to thank God, close friends and family, and all who have contributed to the business, or merely showed interest and provided encouragement.
