Anguilla’s national female volleyball team placed second in the just concluded 1st round of the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Cup qualifiers which were held in St. Kitts from July 26 – 28. Anguilla easily defeatedBermuda(25, 21; 25, 15; 25, 18) and St. Maarten (26, 24; 25, 18; 25, 11), but suffered two setbacks when it was defeated by arch rivals St. Kitts in the preliminary round (25, 18; 25, 19; 25, 12) and in the finals (25, 11; 25, 18; 25, 12). By virtue of placing second,Anguillahas earned a place in the second round of World Cup qualifications and has booked its spot in the ECVA Tournament which will be held later this year.
The ladies were elated at the results but acknowledged the focus must be on preparing for the ECVA Tournament later this year and the next round of World Cup matches. The Anguilla Amateur Volleyball Association (AAVA) would like to congratulate the ladies and management on their victory, as well as thank NORCECA, the Sports Department, and the Fundraising Committee for ensuring the team’s participation in the Tournament.
