Anguillian sprinting sensation Zharnel Hughes has been ranked by the International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) as the 3rd fastest 100 meter male youth sprinter in the World. Zharnel improved his ranking after his outstanding performance at the CAC Junior Track & Field Championship earlier this month where he finished second in the 100m final. His best time of 10.42 seconds puts him just behind world No.2 Tremayne Acy of the USA with a best of 10.41, and world No.1 Jevaughn Minzie of Jamaica with a best of 10.28. Zharnel’s best 200m time of 20.98 seconds presently ranks him 4th on the world list.
He is scheduled to compete in the World Youth Championships in Barcelona, Spain, later this month where he will aim to improve his rankings in both the 100 and 200 meter sprints.
Meanwhile Anguillian Shara Proctor, representing Britain, is currently leading the Women’s Long Jump in the Samsung Diamond League while tying with USA’s Janay Deloach andRussia’s Yelena Sokolova, all having a total of 6 points. The Samsung Diamond League consists of 14 meeting series that hosts 32 individual event disciplines. Each event winner after the 14th meet will be awarded a diamond trophy and a cash prize.
