Calypsonian Super Blue

With the Anguilla Summer Festival 2012 now gearing up, it has been announced that Austin Lyons, better known as Super Blue and Blueboy, a Trinidad and Tobago calypsonian, soca musician and lyricist, is to headline the 16th Annual Leeward Islands Calypso Competition in Anguilla on August 11.

The announcement was made at a press conference on Tuesday by member of the organising committee,KeithleyLake. “Super Blue” can be considered as one of the fathers of modern day soca. He has won the Road March Competition in Trinidad more times than any other person, and he has gone on to win the International Soca Monarch a record of five times,” Mr. Lake stated. “We could not be happier than to procure the services of Super Blue to perform in Anguilla this year.

“Those who are in tune with soca music will know about some of his hits. They include Soca Baptist, Rebecca, Bacchanal Time, Fete, GetSomething and Wave (and this is where that phrase came from that is so popular in soca music today), Wind on Something and many more. He will be performing at least three other songs and we already have the music in our possession for the band to rehearse.”

Mr. Lake said the Committee’s selection of the popular Trinidad and Tobago performer was a demonstration of its intention to provide a better show each year. “Following last year’s show, someone asked me: ‘after David Rudder, who will you get?’ We are fortunate that we have been able to procure the services of Super Blue,” Mr. Lake said. “We are hoping everyone will come out and expect that this show will surpass that of last year, or the years before, because the show will be spectacular.

“As usual, he [Super Blue] will be backed by our own All Star Band which comes out ofSt. Thomas, St. Kitts, Antigua, St. Maarten and Anguilla. I think we are not in the least worried about the quality of the show. We urge people to get ready, and we are going to make a serious attempt to make sure that the radio stations get copies of his major hits so that persons can familiarise themselves and look forward to winding on something on August 11.”
