Representing the proposition were Shakaila Carty and Juron Dupis. In delivering the opening arguments, Shakaila stated that modern technology such, as the cell phone, was infectious to all walks of life in Anguilla and made individuals anti-social. Juron Dupis, in the second round for the proposition, he used detailed examples inAnguillato show how the advancement of modern technology had promoted the spread of false and negative communication among Anguillians. He also hinted that the development of cyber communication, such as omg and lol, has led to a general decline in the number and level of passes at CXC andCAPE. Dupis concluded that people inAnguillahave no respect for how, where and when to use the modern advancements in technology.

Opposing the moot, Arielle Gaskin highlighted the fact that technology was an absolute necessity. Supporting her, with this claim, Prisca Ogolo’s argument outlined the benefits of cost reduction and time-saving which are attributed to the advancement of modern technology. She pointed out that online shopping and distance learning were good examples of such.

There were no rebuttals for the debate and as the judges deliberated on the results, members in the audience were given an opportunity to air their opinions on the moot.
