In the run-up to Anguilla Day, on Wednesday, schools throughout the island held special programmes to sensitise children about national history and pride and invited a number of knowledgeable persons from the community to address them.
One of the places at which The Anguillian was invited, was the Bethel Methodist Pre-school, at South Hill, where the teachers and the 46 enrolled pupils showed their patriotism by dressing in Anguilla’s national colours.
Principal/Supervisor of the Pre-school, Londrina Hughes, explained to the newspaper on Tuesday, May 29, what the event was all about:
“This is to let them know that they should be proud Anguillians,” she said. “Wearing the national colours represents our flag and we think that it is very important to let the children know the history of Anguilla.
By wearing the national colours today, they, in their own way, are playing a small part of being patriotic towards Anguilla.”
Ms. Hughes continued: “We invited persons to our school to tell the children a little bit more just in case we don’t know much, and we talked to them about things like the national flag what it means, the national bird and the national flower. We also told them about the Anguilla Revolution.”
